Help Desk Technician Apprentice

Grand Consulting is a small, but growing, information technology company located in Des Moines, Iowa. We provide support for clients in professional service industries such as dental, healthcare, eyecare, law, accounting, creative, and construction. We manage our clients’ digital needs including installation, maintenance, and security of the technology they need to run their businesses.

We are excited to hire our first apprentice—a Help Desk Technician. This is part of our new three-year Information Technology Apprenticeship Program developed in partnership with the Technology Association of Iowa and with the approval of the U.S. Department of Labor, Office of Apprenticeship.

The apprenticeship is a paid, full-time position located in Des Moines, Iowa. This position does NOT require experience in the technology field. Instead, we are looking for someone eager to learn and ready to establish a new career in our industry.

This program is centered around hands-on learning and mentorship. It will provide an opportunity to gain valuable experience and get a foot in the door. You will learn by doing and your progress will be regularly monitored and assessed. By the end of the program, you will be fully-trained and just as skilled as any other member of our team.


  • Small business computer network setup and maintenance.

  • Server and network setup.

  • Workstation installation and configuration.

  • Hardware and software troubleshooting.

  • General computer support and maintenance.


  • Possesses a genuine interest in learning more about computers and technology.

  • Hungry for knowledge and determined to improve upon their own skill set.

  • Enjoys helping people and solving problems.

  • Patient and understanding when dealing with others.


  • Live in the Greater Des Moines Area.

  • Available to work 40 hours a week.

  • Willing to attend additional classroom instruction outside of business hours.

  • A valid driver’s license and vehicle for transportation.

  • Capable of lifting and moving up to 30 lbs of equipment.
