WHEN NETWORK OUTAGES STOP THE BEER FROM FLOWING

When you walk into The Hall, you’re transported into the past and the future all at once. A giant German beer hall located in a refurbished railcar building, 54 beverages on tap, and food from some of Des Moines’ finest food trucks. All running on a completely cashless system.

Rotating food trucks make up the “food court for adults” where each truck accepts orders and payment. The Hall’s wanted guests to spend more time drinking good beer with friends and less time waiting to order or to get their check. They needed a unique solution to make this ambitious ecosystem work together seamlessly.

They didn’t want to run cables to each food truck or make guests pay for food and drinks at multiple locations. Their system needed to handle complex processes, but be simple enough for a tech-illiterate grandma to use.

WHAT THEY NEEDED

  • Reliable and secure wifi available for guests, food-truck vendors, and staff

  • A system that never goes down so their business is always up-and-running

  • An integrated point-of-sale system so guests can pay at the counter or use an app

  • Phones and surveillance cameras tied into their network

We were in desperate need of a robust and redundant network solution. We are mostly credit card based and operate almost solely in the cloud. If our wifi goes down, we are in big trouble.

THE SOLUTION

Other companies told them it couldn’t be done. But when The Hall approached Grand Consulting, we knew exactly what they needed. We brought in multiple internet service providers, installed enough wireless devices to cover their entire building, and gave food trucks the hardware they needed (a receipt printer and wireless bridge).

With this solution, guests can order Belgian fries, a wood-fired pizza, Korean spring rolls, and their favorite German beer from a smartphone app and pick everything up in one location. The food trucks receive their payments from the same system The Hall uses, which streamlines the process and ensures the books are kept nice and tidy.

Not only that, if the network ever goes down, another backup network kicks in—keeping all the businesses online and operating.

Grand Consulting listens to what customers need, they offer multiple solutions, and they recommend what the best solution is from a technical standpoint. Then they leave it up to the customer to choose.

THE RESULT

The Hall has been rocking since October 2017. They are now the most high-tech bar in the state and setting the standard for others to meet. Because their technology is so seamlessly connected and user-friendly, guests spend their time chatting with old friends, making new ones, and enjoying good food instead of waiting in long lines.

Business has never been better! Prost!

On peak nights, we operate four food trucks at the same time. With all the variety, it’s like The Cheesecake Factory around here!
